Ames Public Library Tour

The Ames Public Library expanded to meet community needs for a larger space.

The Ames Public Library opened in 1904. Since then, it has had four additions in 1907, 1938, 1985, and 2011. It has the distinction of being a library that has remained in its original location since its opening. Now standing at an impressive 79,000 square feet, the Ames Public Library has amenities like:

  • one conference room
  • eight study rooms of varying sizes

  • a large children's space with a separate designated storytime and activity room
  • a designated Teen Space
  • an Idea Center media room with equipment and technology available for patron access
